How to Make a USB Drive That Can Be Read on Macs and PCs – Guide

When you want to give someone a USB flash drive with data, you may find it difficult to do so because the format for data storage on USB flash drives is FAT32. This is because most computers are designed to store data in this format, and it takes up less space on a USB flash drive than other formats.

The FAT32 file system is outdated and cannot handle files larger than 4GB. The exFAT file system, which is a replacement for FAT, is better used on disks sized 32 GB or more.

  1. Back up your data on a drive that you want to format as ExFAT.
  2. Format the drive using the ExFAT format.
  3. Remove any data that was backed up in the previous step.
