How to Create a Custom Border in Excel – Guide

A frame is a line around a cell or block of cells in Excel. Cell frames are used to highlight and emphasize a specific section of a worksheet. For example, you can insert borders to draw viewers’ attention to totals or other important data in the spreadsheet. Gridlines appear by default on a worksheet, but you must enter them manually to use cell frames. When you print a document, borders appear on the printed pages whether you print gridlines or not.

To create a custom border in Microsoft Excel, you first need to create a new worksheet. Then, use one of the following methods to add a border around a single cell or range of cells:

  • Circle Border: This option surrounds a group of cells inside and out.
  • Line Width: You can choose between a thin or thick line width for your custom border.
