How to Edit Name on Twitch – Guide

Changing your Twitch username is a fairly straightforward process, although it may have some drawbacks, such as: a new channel URL if you’re a streamer with followers. Instead, you can only change your display name, which will not affect your channel URL or your followers’ ability to find you. As with many social accounts, we can sometimes be hasty in choosing a username. Over time, you may find that it’s not the name you wanted. It could also be that your current brand doesn’t match the name you’ve chosen. Whatever the reason, you don’t need to create a new account to get a new name.

  1. Log into your Twitch account and click on the “name change” link in the top left corner of the main screen.
  2. Enter a new name for yourself and select the type of name you want to use (e.g. “Kaitlyn”, “Taylor”, etc).
  3. Click on the “change name” button to start the process of changing your name on Twitch.

On the User Settings page, you can change your name, avatar, and other settings. You can also enable or disable notifications for your channel.

Once you are in the settings window, you should automatically land on the “profile” section. Scroll down to the “profile settings” section and you can start the name change process.

Twitch allows you to change three things, including your bio, username, and display name. The only change you can make is to change the capitalization of your current username. If you want to change more than just capital letters, you will have to make the change in username.

If you change your username on Twitch, the system will automatically verify that the new username is in use. If someone else already has that name, the text box you are typing will be outlined in red and you will be informed that the username is “unavailable”.

After typing an available name, the text box will turn purple and a green checkmark will ensure the name is ready to be engraved.

To change your username for friends and followers:

  1. Log into your account and click on the “Profile” tab.
  2. Scroll down to the bottom and click on “Change Username.”
  3. In the “Username” field, type in a new name for yourself that you will be using for your online persona.
  4. Click on the “Save Changes” button to finish changing your username.

After blocking the change, your previous username will be blocked from other users for six months. During this period, other people will not be able to claim your name if you finish up wanting it back after its 60 day cooldown.
